Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Lincoln, Nebraska] – On June 1st, 2024, at their inaugural National Convention, the Legal Marijuana Now! Party (LMN) officially nominated Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah for the 2024 presidential ticket in Nebraska. This historic decision, guided by LMN Party Chair Mark Elworth Jr., was reached with unanimous consent from party leadership, reflecting a strong national consensus.
"This marks a monumental day not just for our party, but for American politics," said Christoph Marsh, LMN's 2nd Congressional District Chair. "By nominating Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah, we are responding to the widespread demand for significant political reform and giving Nebraskans, and indeed all Americans, a real choice in this election."
Under the guidance of Mark Elworth Jr., the party showcased its commitment to leadership that champions economic equality, racial justice, and environmental sustainability. "The West/Abdullah platform encapsulates the core values of the Legal Marijuana NOW! Party and addresses the critical issues facing our nation today," stated Marsh.
Dr. Cornel West expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for the nomination: "I am deeply honored and invigorated to receive the support and nomination from the Legal Marijuana NOW! Party. This is a critical juncture for our nation, and our campaign is all about bringing power back to the people. With this nomination, we stand united in our fight for truth, justice and love, and a sustainable future for all."
The LMN believes that the candidacy of Dr. West, a reNOWned philosopher, activist, and critic of the existing two-party system, alongside Dr. Abdullah, will transform the political system by focusing on real issues outside the traditional political echo chamber. "Hosting Drs. West and Abdullah on our ticket is a bold move towards breaking the status quo, energizing our base, and encouraging broad, inclusive political discourse," added Marsh.
With over 7,000 Nebraskans registered with the LMN, this nomination signifies a pivotal shift towards more inclusive and representative governance. "We are proud to support a ticket that truly represents the political will of our members and aligns with our vision for national progress," Marsh concluded.
To date, the West/Abdullah campaign has secured ballot access in Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Colorado, South Carolina, Utah, Oregon, Alaska, and Vermont, pending finalization of certification in certain states.
About Dr. Cornel West
Dr. West, affectionately known to many as Brother West, is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Professor of Philosophy and Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary.
Dr. West is the former University Professor at Harvard University, Professor Emeritus at Princeton University and the first Black person to receive a Ph.D. In Philosophy from Princeton University. He has written 20 books and he is best known for his classics, Race Matters and Democracy Matters, and for his memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud. He will deliver the historic Gifford lectures at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in Spring 2024.
Dr. West enters the 2024 Presidential contest at a time in which he describes a national crisis of moral bankruptcy and spiritual obscenity driven by a derelict duopoly of both major parties that equally places profits over people and the planet. West asserts that running as an Independent candidate affords him the opportunity and duty to deliver policy prescriptions incorporated by and for the people, instead of political parties beholden to corporations and special interest groups who feel no solidarity with poor and working-class people of all races, gender identities, and age groups.
The Cornel West Campaign to empower poor and working people everywhere stands at a pivotal moment in history, committed to being a true campaign for people around the globe. Our aim is and will always be to unite in solidarity with movements of truth and justice, who seek a choice beyond empire, white supremacy, capitalism, patriarchy, and the confines of the corporate-dominated two-party system.
