Alito's Ruling Cannot Silence Pennsylvania Voters: Write-In Cornel West, and Your Vote WILL Count
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, November 1, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Washington, D.C.] – Yesterday, the Supreme Court's decision to reject Dr. Cornel West's request for ballot access in Pennsylvania has stirred a nationwide conversation on democracy and voter rights. Justice Samuel Alito's ruling comes despite Dr. West's clear path forward and Pennsylvania voters' undeniable right to choose an alternative to the two major parties. Make no mistake: Pennsylvanians can write in "Cornel West" for President, and their vote will count.
In a year marked by challenges to ballot access, this decision underscores why our campaign fights tirelessly for the voice of the people. West's campaign offers a true alternative for those disillusioned by candidates aligned with big-money interests, military-industrial ties, and corporate influence. The ruling today highlights the very barriers we seek to dismantle to ensure democracy remains accessible for all Americans.
"Pennsylvania, don't settle for the 'lesser of two evils,'" Dr. West urged. "With a write-in for Cornel West, you're not just casting a vote—you're making a statement against a political system that silences third-party voices and preserves the status quo. Vote your conscience, and let's show that our voices cannot be dismissed." Dr. West added, "If you decide to cast an anti-fascist vote for the war criminal Harris, I do not demonize you - I simply disagree!"
Edwin DeJesus, spokesperson for the West/Abdullah campaign, addressed the broader implications of the decision, stating, "While the focus often falls on foreign election interference, it pales in comparison to what we're witnessing in our own courtrooms. Justice Alito, appointed by former President George W. Bush—whose administration perpetuated war crimes—represents a federal judiciary increasingly co-opted by corporate and institutional power. This is precisely why we need reform to keep our democracy accountable and in the hands of the people."
The West/Abdullah campaign remains committed to offering a meaningful choice in this election. With a presence across battleground states like Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, our campaign is a powerful reminder of the growing movement toward a more inclusive, representative democracy. Pennsylvanians now have the power to amplify that movement by writing in “Cornel West” and sending a clear message that their voice will not be ignored.
The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 16 states. This includes 6 of the battleground states: Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina. For details on where Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah will appear on the ballot across the United States, please see our campaign's ballot access map.
How to Write In Cornel West
Pennsylvania voters: Write "Cornel West" in the space for President on your ballot. Ensure the spelling is correct, and your vote will be counted as a stand for democracy and justice.

Dr. West is the former University Professor at Harvard University, Professor Emeritus at Princeton University and the first Black person to receive a Ph.D. In Philosophy from Princeton University. He delivered the historic Gifford lectures at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in Spring 2024.
Dr. West enters the 2024 Presidential contest at a time in which he describes a national crisis of moral bankruptcy and spiritual obscenity driven by a derelict duopoly of both major parties that equally places profits over people and the planet. West asserts that running as an Independent candidate affords him the opportunity and duty to deliver policy prescriptions incorporated by and for the people, instead of political parties beholden to corporations and special interest groups who feel no solidarity with poor and working-class people of all races, gender identities, and age groups.
The Cornel West Campaign to empower poor and working people everywhere stands at a pivotal moment in history, committed to being a true campaign for people around the globe. Our aim is and will always be to unite in solidarity with movements of truth and justice, who seek a choice beyond empire, white supremacy, capitalism, patriarchy, and the confines of the corporate-dominated two-party system.

Claudia De la Cruz and Cornel West Presidential Campaigns Announce Agreement to Cooperate in Multiple States
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West/Abdullah - [email protected]
Claudia/Karina -[email protected]
United by shared values like opposition to war for empire, a commitment to Black liberation, and determination to build an alternative outside of the two-party system, the two progressive third-party campaigns announced that they would be urging their supporters to vote for each other’s tickets in selected states where one has ballot status but the other does not.
The Justice for All presidential campaign of Cornel West and Melina Abdullah, and the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s ticket of Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia, have announced an agreement to cooperate in a number of states. The Claudia/Karina campaign is calling on its supporters to vote for West and Abdullah in Alaska, which is in turn calling on its supporters to vote for Claudia and Karina in Florida, Hawai’i, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
In Alaska the West/Abdullah campaign has ballot status but De la Cruz and Garcia do not, and the opposite is true in the states where West/Abdullah is calling for a Claudia/Karina vote. Because of the undemocratic obstacles third party candidates are subjected to that Democrats and Republicans are not, both campaigns have had to carry out massive petition-gathering efforts and then defend their ballot status in extensive court battles amid challenges brought by Democratic Party-affiliated lawyers. This agreement aims to maximize the ability of voters to send a clear message that they reject the twin parties of war, racism and Wall Street.
Party for Socialism and Liberation presidential candidate Claudia De la Cruz said, “The country has two ruling parties equally devoted to Empire and Wall Street — that is who we have been running against, not other progressives. We call on all people of conscience to only cast votes for campaigns that have taken a clear stand to end the dictatorship of the ultra-rich, to stop the war on Black America, and who pursue a foreign policy based on peace and solidarity. The Vote Socialist campaign wants to unite with all those who share these goals in order to build a lasting movement to transform this country.”
Presidential candidate Cornel West said, “We must create an alternative to the corrupt corporate two-party system grounded in the Black freedom struggle that puts a priority on anti-imperialist and anti- patriarchal systems! It is a privilege to work with my dear sisters Claudia and Karina of the Party for Socialism and Liberation!”
Vice-Presidential candidate Melina Abdullah said, “As the corporate duopoly uses its vast resources to block us from the ballot, we are fortunate to be fighting for the people alongside principled, longtime organizers like Claudia and Karina. If you can’t vote for Cornel West and me - either on the ballot or write in - please cast your ballot for Claudia de la Cruz. We are committed to continuing our organizing work together for this election and beyond.”
PSL vice-presidential candidate Karina Garcia said, “Donald Trump and Kamala Harris both serve the billionaire class. Millions of people across the country are fed up and looking for an alternative to the endless war, racism and inequality we are subjected to under both Democratic and Republican administrations. Today we are taking an important step in building a united front against this unjust political and economic system, which we need on Election Day and every day after.”
About the Party for Socialism and Liberation:
Every injustice working people experience in society, boils down to the question of who has power. Under the current capitalist system, a tiny clique of rich bankers and CEOs have the power and will do anything to maintain it. We stand for socialism — a system where poor and working people hold political and economic power and use it to meet the needs of all people and to preserve the planet. A system that guarantees healthcare, education, childcare, housing and a living wage with union representation for all.
Join us in the ongoing fight. This is about more than one election or one campaign. It takes building an independent political organization. We are in over 50 cities across the United States and count with multinational and multigenerational leaders of key social movements engaged in the daily fight against exploitation and oppression and for the socialist reorganization of society.

About the Justice for All Party
In an effort to directly confront the suppression of voter choice and participation by legacy political parties, Independent candidate for President of the United States, Dr. Cornel West, announced the establishment of the Justice For All Party (JFA). The party will primarily be utilized as a grassroots, people-powered vehicle to secure ballot access in specific states. Additionally, JFA will grow into a larger formation that galvanizes people-powered initiatives to promote transformational change beyond the 2024 election cycle. JFA provides a mechanism for our grassroots campaign to travel a path of least resistance that will require the fewest number of signatures to attain ballot access in states like California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina, Washington and the District of Columbia.

Voting for the Lesser of Two Evils Still Leaves Evil.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday, October 20, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Victor, California] – Dr. Cornel West may not win the vote in this upcoming Presidential election but the truth is on his side. He has been vilified by the Democrats and attempted to be exploited by the Republicans due to his threat to the current power structure and each party’s personal gain.
What is the worth of a govt that exists only to lie to its people for the purpose of securing, exerting, and expanding its own power?
As a one time Democrat and later on an Independent, I shared the popular sentiment of voting for the lesser of two evils. In time that feeling became unacceptable to me. Once I was able to differentiate symbolism and identity from a service based upon courage and sacrifice and bathed in love and justice for those to be served, I did some homework and I woke up.
As a person of faith I would eventually wake up to the fact that I was keeping God outside my political space. As big as I professed my God to be, I evidently considered Him not big enough to be trusted in my political space. I misinformed myself. I don’t believe it requires a relationship with any god to come to the realizations I’m posting here. When we take the time to unpack and drill down to the ‘why’ of a thing, it makes all the difference in the world.
We are living in catastrophic times where the truth that God put in us all is no longer plausible. We view the truth through the stained glass windows of our nearsighted gain and the adopted ‘team’ which we identify being a part of. The intoxicating drug spun as being our personal interest is constantly being dangled before us as the power brokers sell us false promises and smiling villains (all the while orchestrating our expectations on a political football field that operates solely between the 40 yard lines). American politics at the highest levels is a game where the corporate players cannot lose and the people wait to be sold on the victories they may or may not have truly won. And even those ‘victories’ are not permanent as they are beholding to the whims of profit and power. Welcome to the house of The Rule Of Lies in which we now live.
"This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore. A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong. And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge, is, without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want." -Hannah Arendt
"We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst." -- C. S. Lewis
If we refuse to fight for the dignity of the truth we then substitute expediency for Justice.
Consequently we have become ‘lit’ with the celebrity and symbolism of our political representatives at the expense of holding those people accountable to the true purpose we elect them to stand for. The purpose being to serve you, not their careers, and not the shareholders of the corporate masters who supplied them with the wherewithal required to be elected in today’s elections.
What we all have in common is that we all must inhabit this planet. We all breathe the same air, we all want the best for our children. We are all mortal. (I believe the late President John F Kennedy once said that). What if we the people climbed out of our political , theological, cultural cylos long enough to demand its govt truly be accountable to us, the people, whom it has sworn to serve, and not the corporate sponsors to whom they are beholding for financing their re-election. Take corporate $ out of politics. Institute term limits on both houses.
I am also still a prisoner of hope enough to believe that character matters, that dignity is a duty, that decency is a virtue and that love is contagious. Somehow, someway for reasons that are obvious but I won’t detail here, these virtues have no place in current American politics. Today’s American politics have devolved to a place where because the truth cannot be commodified, truth has no value. Truth certainly holds no weight to the profiteers who run the institutions that we the people pay for. This transactional mind set (though not new) has bled over into our culture as well. Too many of us have been indoctrinated by the cultists duopoly of the Republican and Democratic parties of American politics.
Then comes a person whose principle contribution to this dying democratic American experiment is merely to insist that integrity, decency, justice, and even respect for one another be an integral part of our political process. His aim is merely to introduce some degree of real decency into a wounded, dying democracy and country. He has the unmitigated audacity to insist upon a belief that love, justice and truth still do and should matter even at the highest levels of government. That those universal principles comprise the basic foundation, the basic fabric upon which any nation comprised of human beings must aspire if they wish to live their best lives and to survive as a nation.
I’m not mad at anyone who believes I’m promoting a farsighted pipe dream that is no longer applicable or even possible in today’s world. You might be right. I’m just choosing to put my faith, to place my chips on doing what I believe is the right thing to do for a righteous reason for as long as God grants me breath to do so.
This is merely a call for us to examine the value system we use when determining who we vote for.
I will say that there is a candidate running for the presidency in this upcoming election who is truly running for all the people, at the risk of life, limb, and wherewithal. Someone who has consistently been true to a lifelong calling. His track record is documented and proven. He can be trusted. EVEN HIS DETRACTORS AGREE WITH THAT. He has given his visceral ALL to serve mankind in the best and most way he knows how in the time that Almighty God has gifted him, even at the cost of his all. His name is Cornel Ronald West!

Dr. Cornel West’s Campaign to Appeal Judge’s Decision Blocking West/Abdullah from Pennsylvania Ballot
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, October 14, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania] – In a deeply disappointing and undemocratic ruling, the Pennsylvania federal court has blocked Dr. Cornel West from appearing on the state’s 2024 presidential ballot. This decision, issued late on Friday, deals a severe blow to voters seeking real choice in one of the most critical battleground states of the election.
The judge’s order itself acknowledged the troubling nature of the state's actions:
"This Court has serious concerns with the Secretary’s application of the election code’s restrictions to Dr. West. The laws, as applied to him and based on the record before the Court, appear to be designed to restrict ballot access to him (and other non-major political candidates) for reasons that are not entirely weighty or tailored, and thus appear to run afoul of the U.S. Constitution" - J. Nicholas Ranjan
The West/Abdullah 2024 campaign remains undeterred and is actively appealing this ruling with a renewed commitment to ensuring that all voters—especially those supporting independent candidates—are given equal access and representation. If successful, this appeal could set a precedent for all future independent presidential candidates who face similarly unfair challenges due to elector paperwork technicalities.
"This decision is not just about me—it’s about democracy itself. Blocking independent candidates from the ballot undermines the voice of the people and perpetuates an unjust system. We are appealing this ruling because every voter deserves a real choice, and no candidate should be silenced by bureaucratic barriers," said Dr. Cornel West. He added, "We must bear witness beyond Trump’s neo-fascism leading toward Civil War II and Harris’s multicultural militarism that enables genocide leading toward World War III!"
During the hearing, Jonathan Marks, the Deputy Secretary for Elections & Commissions, confirmed multiple times that "it would not be impossible to reprint ballots" in Pennsylvania. This acknowledgment further reinforces that the decision to block Dr. West is not only unjust but avoidable. The campaign firmly believes that no candidate should be excluded from the ballot due to bureaucratic hurdles, especially when the remedy is entirely feasible.
"This ruling is a direct assault on voter choice and the democratic process. We’re appealing because the stakes couldn’t be higher—not just for Dr. West, but for every future independent candidate. Pennsylvania voters deserve to have all options on the ballot," said Edwin DeJesus, spokesperson for the campaign. "This fight is bigger than a single election—we are fighting to ensure a truly democratic process where all voices are heard and all candidates, regardless of party, have a fair chance to compete. The implications of this appeal extend far beyond Pennsylvania and will affect the future of independent candidates nationwide. The West/Abdullah campaign calls on all supporters to spread our message of truth, justice, and love on social media as we continue this battle for fairness and justice and urge the U.S. Court of Appeals to correct this egregious ruling."
The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 16 states. This includes 6 of the battleground states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Minnesota, Virginia and North Carolina. Dr. Cornel West Launches "Lead with Love" Campaign, Collaborates with Pastor Cue and Public Statement Apparel to Support Houseless Community
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, September 18, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Los Angeles, California] – As part of the "Lead with Love" initiative, the Cornel West presidential campaign is honored to announce a collaboration with Pastor Cue, leader of The Row LA "The Church Without Walls," and Erik Hardeman, founder of Public Statement Apparel (PSA). Together, they will provide donated clothing to members of the houseless community in Los Angeles through Pastor Cue's impactful ministry.
Pastor Cue, a long-standing advocate for justice and compassion, addressed the deeper issues underlying the homelessness crisis:
"Since our houseless problem is due to housing unaffordability and housing unavailability, we could have solved our homelessness problem a long time ago. It's not that we cannot solve the problem; it's that we refuse to solve it. If you change the problem of 'homelessness' and replace it with 'war' in Ukraine or Israel, we would've written a check with bipartisan support a long time ago, even if it cost trillions."
Public Statement Apparel, a small business led by Erik Hardeman in Los Angeles, will produce the clothing line. Hardeman shared the PSA mission:
“At PSA, our mission goes beyond creating clothing. We are committed to fostering community involvement, empowerment, and continual improvement. Through collaborations with independent artists and organizations, we amplify voices and support meaningful causes, making a positive impact one pop-up at a time. From design to production, every piece of PSA merchandise is crafted in-house with passion and purpose. Our aim? To share knowledge, ignite empowerment, and drive forward progressive action in the fight against systemic injustices faced by people of color worldwide. This isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement fueled by awareness and action. And you can be a part of it. By supporting small businesses like ours, wearing your statement proudly, and standing up for what you believe in, you're joining us on the journey toward change. Together, we can make a difference, one statement at a time.”
Dr. Cornel West emphasized the importance of this collaboration:
"This is about love made manifest in real ways. Pastor Cue and Erik are living examples of what it means to love thy neighbor, especially those who have been neglected by society. We’re not just providing clothes—we’re sending a message of dignity, care, and solidarity."
The "Lead with Love" initiative is a key part of the campaign’s broader commitment to truth, justice, and love, focusing on uplifting marginalized communities. The clothing will be produced and distributed directly to those in need, offering tangible support and building deeper community connections. The West/Abdullah 2024 campaign store is now available at https://www.CornelWest2024.com/shop.

Dr. Cornel West’s Campaign Moves to Federal Court Following Pennsylvania Supreme Court Decision
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, September 18, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Harrisburg, Pennsylvania] – In light of the recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling against its presidential electors, the West/Abdullah campaign has moved the case to federal court, where the constitutional issues, particularly surrounding First Amendment rights, will receive more thorough scrutiny.
The West/Abdullah 2024 campaign is disappointed but not surprised by the Democratic Party's ongoing efforts to block ballot access. "These actions are part of a broader strategy to undermine alternative voices and suppress competition within the political system," said campaign spokesperson Edwin DeJesus.
"It's important to note that if Pennsylvania proceeds with printing ballots without Dr. West's name, the court has the authority to order a reprint to include him. Similar rulings have been made in other states, and we remain hopeful that a just outcome will prevail," added DeJesus. "By leveraging their resources to challenge legitimate campaigns like ours in court, the Democrats are demonstrating that they are more interested in maintaining power than allowing voters the freedom to choose from a diverse field of candidates."
"These unconstitutional tactics, aimed at stifling democracy, are nothing new. Rather than embracing debate and a diversity of thought, the Democrats are employing procedural barriers and legal challenges to silence voices that offer real solutions to the problems everyday Americans face," said Dr. Cornel West. The campaign remains committed to fighting back and ensuring voters have the choice they deserve, despite the Democrats' continued efforts to limit ballot access and control the political narrative.
The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 17 states. This includes 6 of the battleground states: Michigan, Georgia, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina. For details on where Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah will appear on the ballot across the United States, please see our campaign’s ballot access map.

Dr. Cornel West Appeals Georgia Court Decision, Urges Voters to Support the West/Abdullah Ticket at the Top of Their Ballot
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, September 12, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Atlanta, Georgia] – The Dr. Cornel West presidential campaign urges voters in Georgia to vote for the West/Abdullah ticket at the top of their ballot, even in the face of a recent court ruling that temporarily disqualifies Dr. West from the ballot. The campaign is actively appealing the decision and remains confident in its legal case.
On Wednesday, two state court judges ruled that Dr. Cornel West and Claudia De la Cruz, a fellow presidential candidate, were disqualified from running in Georgia due to technical issues with their elector filings. However, it’s too late to remove their names from the ballot, meaning voters will still see their names on Election Day.
“We are appealing this decision, which negates the basic democratic rights of the people of Georgia to vote for the candidate of their choice,” said Edwin DeJesus, a spokesperson for the West campaign. “We will not stand by as the democratic process is undermined. This ruling is a direct assault on the voters’ rights to choose their leaders, and we are fighting to ensure that every Georgian can vote for a candidate who truly represents their values and visions for the future.”
While the legal process continues, Dr. West is urging his supporters to remain undeterred. “This is not just a campaign – it’s a movement for truth, justice and love. We are fighting for the rights of all people, and we will not be deterred,” said Dr. West. “I encourage everyone to support the West/Abdullah ticket by voting for us at the top of your ballot in Georgia.”
The campaign's platform includes:
- Economic Justice: Addressing income inequality and providing fair wages for all workers.
- Medicare for All: A comprehensive healthcare system that leaves no one behind.
- Criminal Justice Reform: Overhauling the system to end racial disparities and mass incarceration.
- Environmental Justice: Fighting climate change and promoting sustainable solutions.
Despite the court’s ruling, West’s name will remain on the ballot in Georgia. Voters are encouraged to cast their vote for West/Abdullah at the top of the ballot to continue supporting the campaign’s fight for Justice for All.
