Dr. Cornel West’s Campaign to Appeal Judge’s Decision Blocking West/Abdullah from Pennsylvania Ballot
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, October 14, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania] – In a deeply disappointing and undemocratic ruling, the Pennsylvania federal court has blocked Dr. Cornel West from appearing on the state’s 2024 presidential ballot. This decision, issued late on Friday, deals a severe blow to voters seeking real choice in one of the most critical battleground states of the election.
The judge’s order itself acknowledged the troubling nature of the state's actions:
"This Court has serious concerns with the Secretary’s application of the election code’s restrictions to Dr. West. The laws, as applied to him and based on the record before the Court, appear to be designed to restrict ballot access to him (and other non-major political candidates) for reasons that are not entirely weighty or tailored, and thus appear to run afoul of the U.S. Constitution" - J. Nicholas Ranjan
The West/Abdullah 2024 campaign remains undeterred and is actively appealing this ruling with a renewed commitment to ensuring that all voters—especially those supporting independent candidates—are given equal access and representation. If successful, this appeal could set a precedent for all future independent presidential candidates who face similarly unfair challenges due to elector paperwork technicalities.
"This decision is not just about me—it’s about democracy itself. Blocking independent candidates from the ballot undermines the voice of the people and perpetuates an unjust system. We are appealing this ruling because every voter deserves a real choice, and no candidate should be silenced by bureaucratic barriers," said Dr. Cornel West. He added, "We must bear witness beyond Trump’s neo-fascism leading toward Civil War II and Harris’s multicultural militarism that enables genocide leading toward World War III!"
During the hearing, Jonathan Marks, the Deputy Secretary for Elections & Commissions, confirmed multiple times that "it would not be impossible to reprint ballots" in Pennsylvania. This acknowledgment further reinforces that the decision to block Dr. West is not only unjust but avoidable. The campaign firmly believes that no candidate should be excluded from the ballot due to bureaucratic hurdles, especially when the remedy is entirely feasible.
"This ruling is a direct assault on voter choice and the democratic process. We’re appealing because the stakes couldn’t be higher—not just for Dr. West, but for every future independent candidate. Pennsylvania voters deserve to have all options on the ballot," said Edwin DeJesus, spokesperson for the campaign. "This fight is bigger than a single election—we are fighting to ensure a truly democratic process where all voices are heard and all candidates, regardless of party, have a fair chance to compete. The implications of this appeal extend far beyond Pennsylvania and will affect the future of independent candidates nationwide. The West/Abdullah campaign calls on all supporters to spread our message of truth, justice, and love on social media as we continue this battle for fairness and justice and urge the U.S. Court of Appeals to correct this egregious ruling."
The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 16 states. This includes 6 of the battleground states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Minnesota, Virginia and North Carolina. For details on where Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah will appear on the ballot across the United States, please see our campaign’s ballot access map.

Dr. Cornel West Launches "Lead with Love" Campaign, Collaborates with Pastor Cue and Public Statement Apparel to Support Houseless Community
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, September 18, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Los Angeles, California] – As part of the "Lead with Love" initiative, the Cornel West presidential campaign is honored to announce a collaboration with Pastor Cue, leader of The Row LA "The Church Without Walls," and Erik Hardeman, founder of Public Statement Apparel (PSA). Together, they will provide donated clothing to members of the houseless community in Los Angeles through Pastor Cue's impactful ministry.
Pastor Cue, a long-standing advocate for justice and compassion, addressed the deeper issues underlying the homelessness crisis:
"Since our houseless problem is due to housing unaffordability and housing unavailability, we could have solved our homelessness problem a long time ago. It's not that we cannot solve the problem; it's that we refuse to solve it. If you change the problem of 'homelessness' and replace it with 'war' in Ukraine or Israel, we would've written a check with bipartisan support a long time ago, even if it cost trillions."
Public Statement Apparel, a small business led by Erik Hardeman in Los Angeles, will produce the clothing line. Hardeman shared the PSA mission:
“At PSA, our mission goes beyond creating clothing. We are committed to fostering community involvement, empowerment, and continual improvement. Through collaborations with independent artists and organizations, we amplify voices and support meaningful causes, making a positive impact one pop-up at a time. From design to production, every piece of PSA merchandise is crafted in-house with passion and purpose. Our aim? To share knowledge, ignite empowerment, and drive forward progressive action in the fight against systemic injustices faced by people of color worldwide. This isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement fueled by awareness and action. And you can be a part of it. By supporting small businesses like ours, wearing your statement proudly, and standing up for what you believe in, you're joining us on the journey toward change. Together, we can make a difference, one statement at a time.”
Dr. Cornel West emphasized the importance of this collaboration:
"This is about love made manifest in real ways. Pastor Cue and Erik are living examples of what it means to love thy neighbor, especially those who have been neglected by society. We’re not just providing clothes—we’re sending a message of dignity, care, and solidarity."
The "Lead with Love" initiative is a key part of the campaign’s broader commitment to truth, justice, and love, focusing on uplifting marginalized communities. The clothing will be produced and distributed directly to those in need, offering tangible support and building deeper community connections. The West/Abdullah 2024 campaign store is now available at https://www.CornelWest2024.com/shop.

Dr. Cornel West’s Campaign Moves to Federal Court Following Pennsylvania Supreme Court Decision
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, September 18, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Harrisburg, Pennsylvania] – In light of the recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling against its presidential electors, the West/Abdullah campaign has moved the case to federal court, where the constitutional issues, particularly surrounding First Amendment rights, will receive more thorough scrutiny.
The West/Abdullah 2024 campaign is disappointed but not surprised by the Democratic Party's ongoing efforts to block ballot access. "These actions are part of a broader strategy to undermine alternative voices and suppress competition within the political system," said campaign spokesperson Edwin DeJesus.
"It's important to note that if Pennsylvania proceeds with printing ballots without Dr. West's name, the court has the authority to order a reprint to include him. Similar rulings have been made in other states, and we remain hopeful that a just outcome will prevail," added DeJesus. "By leveraging their resources to challenge legitimate campaigns like ours in court, the Democrats are demonstrating that they are more interested in maintaining power than allowing voters the freedom to choose from a diverse field of candidates."
"These unconstitutional tactics, aimed at stifling democracy, are nothing new. Rather than embracing debate and a diversity of thought, the Democrats are employing procedural barriers and legal challenges to silence voices that offer real solutions to the problems everyday Americans face," said Dr. Cornel West. The campaign remains committed to fighting back and ensuring voters have the choice they deserve, despite the Democrats' continued efforts to limit ballot access and control the political narrative.
The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 17 states. This includes 6 of the battleground states: Michigan, Georgia, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina. Dr. Cornel West Appeals Georgia Court Decision, Urges Voters to Support the West/Abdullah Ticket at the Top of Their Ballot
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, September 12, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]
[Atlanta, Georgia] – The Dr. Cornel West presidential campaign urges voters in Georgia to vote for the West/Abdullah ticket at the top of their ballot, even in the face of a recent court ruling that temporarily disqualifies Dr. West from the ballot. The campaign is actively appealing the decision and remains confident in its legal case.
On Wednesday, two state court judges ruled that Dr. Cornel West and Claudia De la Cruz, a fellow presidential candidate, were disqualified from running in Georgia due to technical issues with their elector filings. However, it’s too late to remove their names from the ballot, meaning voters will still see their names on Election Day.
“We are appealing this decision, which negates the basic democratic rights of the people of Georgia to vote for the candidate of their choice,” said Edwin DeJesus, a spokesperson for the West campaign. “We will not stand by as the democratic process is undermined. This ruling is a direct assault on the voters’ rights to choose their leaders, and we are fighting to ensure that every Georgian can vote for a candidate who truly represents their values and visions for the future.”
While the legal process continues, Dr. West is urging his supporters to remain undeterred. “This is not just a campaign – it’s a movement for truth, justice and love. We are fighting for the rights of all people, and we will not be deterred,” said Dr. West. “I encourage everyone to support the West/Abdullah ticket by voting for us at the top of your ballot in Georgia.”
The campaign's platform includes:
- Economic Justice: Addressing income inequality and providing fair wages for all workers.
- Medicare for All: A comprehensive healthcare system that leaves no one behind.
- Criminal Justice Reform: Overhauling the system to end racial disparities and mass incarceration.
- Environmental Justice: Fighting climate change and promoting sustainable solutions.
Despite the court’s ruling, West’s name will remain on the ballot in Georgia. Voters are encouraged to cast their vote for West/Abdullah at the top of the ballot to continue supporting the campaign’s fight for Justice for All.

West asserts that running as an Independent candidate affords him the opportunity and duty to deliver policy prescriptions incorporated by and for the people, instead of political parties beholden to corporations and special interest groups who feel no solidarity with poor and working-class people of all races, gender identities, and age groups.
The Cornel West Campaign to empower poor and working people everywhere stands at a pivotal moment in history, committed to being a true campaign for people around the globe. Our aim is and will always be to unite in solidarity with movements of truth and justice, who seek a choice beyond empire, white supremacy, capitalism, patriarchy, and the confines of the corporate-dominated two-party system.
