FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[email protected]

[Atlanta, Georgia] – The campaign of Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah is thrilled to announce that, despite a recent court challenge, the Georgia Secretary of State has affirmed our Electors and qualified Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah for the presidential ballot in Georgia. This critical decision underscores the resilience of our democratic values and the importance of every Georgian's right to vote.

"We are overjoyed by this decision, which not only upholds the democratic process but also reinforces the power of our collective voice," said Dr. Cornel West. "While challenges remain on the horizon, yesterday’s victory reflects the strength of our grassroots commitment to truth, justice, and love."

Dr. Melina Abdullah expressed her enthusiasm about the campaign’s progress: "This victory in Georgia is a powerful affirmation of our movement’s strength and the will of the people. We are prepared to face any further obstacles with pure determination, knowing that our fight for truth and justice is more vital than ever in this critical election."

Fatimah, the lead volunteer in Georgia, added, "It sends a message to the great people of this country that we are Warriors for Justice fighting for all including those who are left out and forgotten. The audacity of a Super PAC's attempts to take away our freedom to choose Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah whom we think is best is appalling. We will continue our fight for fairness and equity. We are like David up against a Goliath continuously preparing for battle. We are not backing down!"

Although the Democratic Party may still opt to challenge this decision in court, the Secretary of State's ruling affirms the legitimacy of Dr. West's campaign and solidifies our right to be on the ballot. Our team remains vigilant and committed to defending our position, ensuring that the people of Georgia can make their voices heard in November.

The campaign extends its deepest thanks to all supporters, volunteers, and legal advocates who have worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. We look forward to continuing our mission to bring systemic change and are more determined than ever to bring our message of radical love and justice to the people of Georgia and across the nation.

The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 17 states. This includes 6 of the battleground states: Michigan, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin and North Carolina. For more info, see our ballot access map.

Dr. Cornel West Faces Ballot Removal as Virginia Attempts Unconstitutional Rule Change

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thursday, August 28, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]

[Richmond, Virginia] – In an unprecedented and undemocratic move, the state of Virginia is attempting to remove Dr. Cornel West from the presidential ballot by changing the rules in the middle of an election season. This action not only undermines the integrity of the electoral process but also blatantly disregards the constitutional rights of voters and candidates alike.

Dr. Cornel West, who recently secured ballot access in Virginia after surpassing the state’s rigorous signature requirements, is now facing an unconstitutional challenge that threatens to strip voters of their right to choose a candidate who represents truth, justice, and love. The attempt to alter the rules during an ongoing election is a clear violation of democratic principles and raises serious concerns about the motivations behind such actions.

"This is an attack not just on our campaign but on democracy itself," said Dr. Cornel West. "Changing the rules in the middle of an election season is a direct assault on the rights of voters and the integrity of the electoral process. We are committed to fighting this unconstitutional maneuver and ensuring that the people of Virginia—and all Americans—have the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice."

Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Melina Abdullah added, "This blatant attempt to remove us from the ballot is a desperate move by those who fear the power of a movement rooted in truth, justice, and love. We will not be silenced, and we will not stand by while the democratic process is undermined." The West/Abdullah campaign is prepared to challenge this unconstitutional action in court and will continue to fight for the rights of every voter to have their voices heard. The campaign is calling on all supporters to stand with them in this critical moment and to help defend the fundamental principles of democracy.

"The attempt to change the rules at this stage is not only unconstitutional but also sets a dangerous precedent for future elections," said campaign spokesperson Edwin DeJesus. "We will do everything in our power to ensure that the people of Virginia have the right to vote for Dr. West in the upcoming election." The campaign urges all supporters and advocates of democracy to join in this fight against the unconstitutional actions being taken in Virginia. Together, we can uphold the integrity of our electoral process and ensure that every vote counts.

The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 17 states. This includes 6 of the battleground states: Michigan, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin and North Carolina. For more info, see our ballot access map.

Dr. Cornel West's Campaign Achieves Victory in Wisconsin and Secures Ballot Access

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, August 27, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]

[Madison, Wisconsin] – In a significant victory for democracy, the campaign of Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah has successfully defeated a challenge from the DNC and officially certified for the ballot in Wisconsin, following a decisive 5-1 ruling by the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Oliver Hall and the Center for Competitive Democracy, alongside the pivotal involvement of the More Voter Choice Fund, played instrumental roles in securing this victory before the WEC this morning.

Dr. Cornel West expressed his gratitude and determination: "This is not just a win for our campaign but for all who cherish true democracy. We have overcome significant obstacles, and these victories in Michigan and Wisconsin reaffirm the strength of our grassroots movement." Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Melina Abdullah shared her thoughts on the broader implications of this victory: “The decision today reaffirms that the people's will cannot be silenced by procedural challenges or political gatekeeping. We are heartened by the support in Wisconsin and are more committed than ever to advancing our cause for radical change and equity across the nation.”

Joel Ballivian, the lead volunteer in Wisconsin, highlighted the local sentiment: "Many people know, deep down inside, that the massacre against Palestinians in Gaza is wrong, that the U.S. functions like an unaccountable imperialistic regime around the world, that historic racism has an enduring legacy in this country, that politics is tethered to big money, and so on. Wisconsinites are like anyone else: they're wrestling with political fatigue and disillusionment. But they are also courageous and restless for change. In that liminal space, a movement rooted in truth, justice, and love is captivating––even astonishing."

The West/Abdullah campaign is committed to building on these victories, energizing supporters across the United States to bring about systemic change. With ballot access now secured in both Michigan and Wisconsin, the campaign is poised to bring its message of radical love and justice to an even wider audience. The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 18 states. This includes 7 of the battleground states: Michigan, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina. For more info, see our ballot access map.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cornel West for President
[email protected]

[Austin, Texas] – The West/Abdullah campaign is proud to announce that Texas has officially accepted their declaration of write-in candidacy for the offices of President and Vice President of the United States. With this approval, Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah will appear on the list of declared write-in candidates for the general election in Texas, the second-largest voting state in the nation. This significant achievement is particularly notable given Texas' highest signature requirements in the country, necessitating a minimum of 113,000 signatures within just two months. The campaign extends its heartfelt thanks to all volunteers, supporters, and organizers on the ground in Texas who have tirelessly spread Dr. West's message of truth, justice, and love in their communities.

Dr. Cornel West shared his enthusiasm about the campaign’s latest development: "This is a profound moment for us and for every supporter who believes in the power of their vote. Texas' recognition of our write-in campaign affirms that our collective efforts can bring forth the monumental changes we seek in our society. I am deeply moved by the support and ready to see the spirit of democracy shine this November." Dr. Melina Abdullah added, "Being accepted as write-in candidates in Texas is vital for our fight towards justice and systemic change. It shows that when we come together, no barrier is too large to overcome. We're calling on everyone to make their mark by writing in our names, as each vote is a declaration for justice and a step toward a more just society."

Edwin DeJesus, campaign spokesperson, stated: “The campaign is striving to secure write-in candidacy in additional states, aiming to enable the largest write-in campaign in American history. This strategy ensures that all Americans, regardless of their state, have the opportunity to vote for a platform grounded in truth, justice and love.” The campaign is also committed to transforming America's immigration system, aiming to ensure that it embodies our highest values of compassion and dignity. This involves creating clear, broad legal pathways for residency and ending the inhumane treatment of migrants—policies that will be central to our efforts as we move forward. We encourage our supporters and all voters driven by a desire for substantive change to join us and vote their conscience. Let's ensure that every vote counts and every voice is heard, especially in states where access to the ballot has traditionally been restricted.

[Richmond, Virginia] – The campaign of Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah is excited to announce that they have successfully met and surpassed Virginia's signature requirement for ballot access, securing their place on the presidential ballot for the 2024 general election in Virginia. This significant achievement reflects the dedication and effort of our volunteers and supporters across the state. Virginia's rigorous requirements necessitate a substantial grassroots effort, and our team's success reflects the strong support for Dr. West's vision of truth, justice and love.

Dr. Cornel West expressed his gratitude and excitement about the campaign's progress: "Today marks a joyous occasion for our movement. The people of Virginia have spoken, and their voices call for a change that upholds the dignity and worth of every individual. We are immensely grateful for the strong support and hard work of all who have helped us reach this moment." Dr. Melina Abdullah echoed these sentiments, stating, "Achieving ballot access in Virginia is a demonstration of the power of organized people. Our campaign is about bringing transformative change, and today we move one step closer to bringing our message of radical love and justice to the ballot in Virginia."

Cornel West Campaign Secures Ballot Placement in Michigan, Court Rejects “Democratic” Challenges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Lansing, Michigan] — In a decisive victory for democratic principles and voter choice, the West/Abdullah campaign announced today that the Michigan Court of Claims has affirmed Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah's right to appear on the November ballot. The court ruled against technical challenges from the Democratic Party, solidifying the campaign's position in the upcoming presidential election.

Dr. Cornel West commented on the victory, saying, "This ruling is not just a legal victory—it is a moral victory for everyone who believes in the sanctity of the democratic process. Our campaign submitted over 26,000 signatures, significantly more than required, which the court recognized as a legitimate expression of the people’s will. We are grateful for this affirmation and promise to continue championing the rights of all voters."

Dr. Melina Abdullah added, "Today's decision reinforces that our voices, representing transformative justice and equity, belong in the national dialogue. We will not be silenced by procedural barriers and will keep pushing forward to create a more inclusive and just America."

Elh Shine, lead volunteer in Michigan, also spoke on the campaign’s community efforts: "We represent the voices of all the individuals who signed ballot access petitions in good faith believing their signature would be honored by the state. This legal battle was about the worth of each individual voter in the state of Michigan and whether they matter to the state."

The West/Abdullah campaign continues to gain traction nationwide, advocating for systemic changes and a platform that addresses the pressing issues facing all Americans. With this legal hurdle cleared, the campaign is focused on expanding its reach and preparing for the general election.

The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 18 states. This includes 7 of the battleground states: Michigan, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin and North Carolina. For more info, see our ballot access map.

Dr. Cornel West's Campaign Secures Victory in Maine Ballot Access Challenge

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friday, August 23, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]

[Augusta, Maine] – The campaign of Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah is pleased to announce a decisive legal victory against the Democrats’ challenge in Maine, ensuring their rightful place on the state's presidential ballot this November.

In a recent ruling, Secretary of State Shana Bellows dismissed the DNC's challenges, which alleged fraud and procedural irregularities in the collection of signatures for Dr. West’s nomination. The court noted, "I have a responsibility to the voters of the State of Maine to ensure that the rights of voters are protected every step of the way from nominating candidates to casting ballots. Our democracy depends upon the free and fair exercise of the constitutional rights of the citizenry." While there may be reason to question signatures obtained by an individual circulator, this did not justify disqualifying the entire slate of signatures, many of which were valid and submitted in good faith by Maine voters.

Secretary Bellows further emphasized, "While other states across the country may direct election officials to exclude voters from duly participating in our elections processes on the basis of scrivener’s quibbles, Maine does not." This principle reflects Maine's commitment to maintaining electoral integrity and ensuring that every valid vote is counted.

Dr. Cornel West responded to the ruling, stating, "This victory reaffirms our moral and ethical consistency, holding up the blood-stained banner of truth and justice. It's a reflection of the power of love overcoming the love of power in our society. We are here to ensure that every voice is heard and every vote counts." Dr. Melina Abdullah commented, "Today's ruling sheds light on the ongoing efforts to suppress ballot access, particularly targeting the most vulnerable communities. Our campaign challenges these exclusionary tactics head-on, striving to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in a truly democratic process."

Campaign spokesperson Edwin DeJesus remarked, "The West/Abdullah campaign has actively contested these baseless accusations in court and today’s ruling highlights our dedication to maintaining integrity in the electoral process. Ranked-choice voting in Maine demonstrates how alternative voting methods can benefit third-party candidates, offering a model that we advocate extending nationally to empower voters and enrich our democracy."

The West/Abdullah campaign continues to advocate for systemic change, emphasizing the importance of justice, equity, and the power of community. With this victory in Maine, the campaign is more energized than ever to spread its message of truth, justice and love to voters across the United States.

The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 18 states. This includes 7 of the battleground states: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin and North Carolina. For more info, see our ballot access map.

Dr. Cornel West’s Campaign Doubles Signature Requirement for Minnesota Ballot Access

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, August 20, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]

[Saint Paul, Minnesota] – The Cornel West for President Campaign announces that it has surpassed twice the required signature threshold for ballot access in Minnesota. This achievement not only secures Dr. Cornel West's place on the ballot but also reflects the strong grassroots support for his transformative vision. Minnesota, the home state of Vice President Tim Walz, plays a critical role in the upcoming presidential election.

"Our success in Minnesota is a strong endorsement of our vision for America—a vision that champions truth, justice and love," said Dr. Cornel West. "We are heartened by the overwhelming support from Minnesotans who are ready for a profound shift in the country’s political discourse."

The significant surplus in signatures not only highlights the dedication of the campaign's volunteers but also positions Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah as formidable contenders in a state known for its progressive politics. "In the shadow of the George Floyd uprisings, the overwhelming response to our campaign by Minnesota voters is an indicator that people still want transformative change," added vice presidential candidate Dr. Melina Abdullah.

Nick Shillingford, the lead volunteer in Minnesota, expressed his enthusiasm: "People, and young people specifically, are very excited to have someone they can vote FOR rather than just someone they feel they have to vote against. I asked a woman who was jogging with her earbuds in to sign the petition and for a brief moment I was afraid she was going to be upset that I was interrupting her jog. But while I was explaining the campaign she said "I love Cornel West, I'll sign anything for Cornel West" and she began signing. Minnesota is a state that has a huge community that cares about justice, human rights and the environment so the West campaign is a natural fit in this state.”

The campaign's success in Minnesota is part of a broader strategy to engage deeply with issues that resonate with Americans, including abolishing poverty and homelessness, racial justice, and environmental sustainability. The West/Abdullah platform offers an alternative to the policies championed by the major party candidates, aiming to transform the political dialogue and bring real solutions to the poor and working class.

Dr. Cornel West's Campaign Engages in Michigan Ballot Legal Battle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, August 20, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]

[Lansing, Michigan] – Today, the campaign of Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Melina Abdullah announced its decision to intervene in a legal challenge initiated by the Michigan Democratic Party. The lawsuit questions the inclusion of Dr. West and Dr. Abdullah on the Michigan ballot, citing procedural concerns.

The campaign issued the following statement: "This lawsuit, focused on minor procedural details such as notarization, represents a legal tactic aimed to distract from the essential policy debates. Initiated by the DNC and the Michigan Democratic Party, its purpose is clear: to suppress the progressive voices challenging the current administration’s policies, including its support of a genocide in Gaza.”

Dr. Cornel West added, "Our campaign, supported by progressive state parties nationwide, embodies a commitment to deep systemic change. We are ready to battle it out in court to defend the voices of poor and working class people, ensuring our place on the ballot."

Dr. Melina Abdullah also commented, "The overwhelming support we have received, particularly from Michigan voters, highlights the urgent need for candidates who speak to real issues like ending the genocide in Gaza and providing workers with a livable wage here. We will not be silenced by baseless legal maneuvers intended to disrupt our movement."

Campaign spokesperson Edwin DeJesus stated, "The West/Abdullah campaign is actively intervening in this case to vigorously contest these baseless accusations. We are confident that a thorough examination in court will expose these legal maneuvers as unfounded attempts to curb the growing progressive movement. The campaign remains committed to defending its position and continuing the fight for a political revolution that addresses the rights and needs of all people.”

Elh Shine, a lead Michigan volunteer, expressed the significance of this legal challenge: "We intend to represent the voices of all the individuals who signed ballot access petitions in good faith believing their signature would be honored by the state. This legal battle is about the worth of each individual voter in the state of Michigan and whether they matter to the state."

Dr. Cornel West Secures Ballot Access in Washington State with Justice For All Party

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friday, August 16, 2024
Cornel West for President
[email protected]

[Olympia, Washington] – The West/Abdullah campaign announces that the Justice For All Party (JFA) has successfully secured a spot on the Washington State ballot for the 2024 presidential election. This significant achievement comes through the tireless efforts of dedicated volunteers and strong community support.

"Securing a place on the ballot in Washington is not just a victory for this campaign but a victory for democracy," stated Dr. Cornel West, independent presidential candidate nominated by the Justice For All Party. "This enables the campaign to address critical issues facing Washington—from environmental challenges and economic disparities to championing social justice."

Lead volunteers CJ Tonnes, Ashton Beavers, and Laura Fielding led the signature collection efforts, demonstrating the community’s enthusiasm for significant political change and empowerment. "The conversations on the ground show a profound commitment to our collective future," remarked CJ Tonnes.

This victory for JFA not only impacts this election but also establishes a lasting legacy, ensuring ballot access in future election cycles - including local and state elections - thus contributing to a more diverse and representative political discourse in Washington and beyond.

Laura Fielding discussed the impact of ballot access on the party's ability to support the community: "Furthermore, ballot access enhances the JFA’s capacity for fundraising for mutual aid efforts and community support initiatives. With this achievement, the campaign can amplify efforts to provide tangible aid and support to local communities, reinforcing the commitment to serve and uplift every citizen." As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the West/Abdullah campaign is more motivated than ever to promote a platform of justice, equity, and community support.

The West/Abdullah campaign has the signatures and minor party nominations it needs to get on the ballot in 17 states. This includes 7 of the battleground states: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin and North Carolina. For more info, see our ballot access map.

About the Justice for All Party

In an effort to directly confront the suppression of voter choice and participation by legacy political parties, Independent candidate for President of the United States, Dr. Cornel West, announced the establishment of the Justice For All Party (JFA). The party will primarily be utilized as a grassroots, people-powered vehicle to secure ballot access in specific states. Additionally, JFA will grow into a larger formation that galvanizes people-powered initiatives to promote transformational change beyond the 2024 election cycle. JFA provides a mechanism for our grassroots campaign to travel a path of least resistance that will require the fewest number of signatures to attain ballot access in states like California, North Carolina, Washington and the District of Columbia.
