Independent candidate for President of the United States, Dr. Cornel West will appear at the Rally for a Radical Future in Salt Lake City, Utah on Monday November 20, 2023. The event, which will take place at the University of Utah, will also be headlined by Independent Mayoral candidate, Michael Valentine, and include appearances by myriad local grassroots organizations and community leaders on the eve of the Salt Lake’s mayoral election. 

Brother West offered, “As soon as I heard Brother Michael’s story and reviewed his policy platform I was in as it parallels my own Policy Pillars rooted in Truth, Justice, and Love. This brother and I are on the same page and I look forward to sharing the stage with him and other local justice seekers.” West added, “We need more people like Michael who know, first hand, the struggles of poor and working class people leading our nation's cities that are pushing these folk to the margins due to the misleadership of the derelict duopoly; both major parties that have allowed the people’s cities to become playgrounds for corporations, real estate developers, and the ultra wealthy at the expense of the working class and the poor..”  

Similar to West's, Valentine’s people-centered policy platform includes key provisions to eradicate homelessness, establish a living wage for Salt Lake City, and address the worsening climate crisis that’s adversely impacting the iconic Great Salt Lake. In discussing his candidacy for Mayor, Valentine noted, "I am a working-class candidate, I am of the community, I am running to serve our people of Salt Lake City and Utah. Dr. West has long been a light of justice in my life and a direct inspiration to me and our campaign for Mayor.” He continued, “It is an honor of a lifetime to welcome him to our beautiful Salt Lake City on his historic run to be the people's President of the United States of America."

Brothers West and Valentine will also use the opportunity to rally both campaign’s volunteers to get out the vote for Michael while also commencing a grassroots effort to ensure West appears on the ballot for President. The event will begin at 6:00 PM MST and include a volunteer training and other opportunities for Utahns to get involved with the Cornel West 2024 campaign.
